If my spouse needs Medicaid for nursing home care, will the government take my money?

Medicaid allows for the spouse not receiving Medicaid benefits, or the ‘Community Spouse,’ to retain certain assets and income. The purpose of Medicaid is to ensure the spouse requiring long-term care receives the benefits they need, while also ensuring the Community Spouse does not become impoverished.

Please see our Medicaid page to learn more about how assets are assessed for Medicaid qualification purposes.
