The Michigan Medicaid Health Care Program is intended to provide medical and health-related assistance to low-income individuals and families who have no, or inadequate, medical insurance. In order to qualify for the program, you must be a resident of the State of Michigan, a U.S. national, citizen, or a permanent resident in need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low, or very low, income.
At Mobile Legal Services, we frequently work with families of individuals who are in long-term, or nursing home care, to qualify for these benefits. While the Medicaid system requires an individual have minimal assets in order to qualify, there are planning options available. Please contact us before making any decisions regarding assets, especially selling a home, or gifting assets to family and friends.
Contact Mobile Legal Services if you have questions about long-term care and medicaid planning. We're happy to provide a free consultation to talk about your best options.
